FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 1, 2017, Toronto, ON … The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announces the online release of the TAPA Stats Report Phase 4.
A presentation of the key findings of the report was made at the 7th Annual Arts Day at the City in December 2016 and was well received by the arts community and members of the Toronto City Council. TAPA is now pleased to make the full report available online.
The TAPA Stats Report Phase 4 is the product of an industry wide survey administered and analyzed by The Strategic Counsel. The report provides a statistical snapshot of data gathered from TAPA’s member organizations for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 performing arts seasons. The report confirms the impact the performing arts have on Toronto’s economy; provides data on audience growth and youth audience engagement; and shows the continuing trend toward successful social media marketing among TAPA members.
Some key findings of the TAPA Stats Report Phase 4:
- 4 million tickets sold for theatre, dance, and opera, reflecting an increase in audience attendance of 5%
- total ticket revenue exceeded $188 million in the 2015/16 season, an increase of $56 million since the 2009/10 survey period of
- despite increasing numbers of productions and performances, TAPA members report a decline of more than 50% of their full-time and part-time artistic and non-artistic staff in the past decade
For over a decade TAPA has been gathering statistics of the arts to allow more effective advocacy for Toronto’s performing arts sector. Thanks to the generous support of the Metcalf Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Toronto, the TAPA Stats Report Phase 4 is the latest example of TAPA’s ongoing advocacy for the over 200 professional theatre, dance, and opera companies contributing to the vibrant culture of the City of Toronto.
