It is easy, too easy, to equate superficiality with simplicity—but This Is a Costume Drama challenges us to witness the true power of what is only skin deep.
Fashion is always more complex and thoughtful than it looks—and in a thin layer of skin or clothing, we can read endlessly. What happens when we do judge a book by its cover—because that is, of course, what book covers are for? And what happens when we look beneath these covers and encounter what lies beneath? How do we engage with the human body —clothed and unclothed? Join us for a highly interactive and challenging pre-show discussion about the way all of our costumes—even yours—bear great meaning.
Join us for a series of Pre-show Teas with our World Stage Scholars-in-Residence. Admission is free with the purchase of a ticket to the opening performance of This Is a Costume Drama.
