The Canadian Opera Company (COC) aims to bring the transformative experience of opera to our local, national, and global audience every day of the year.

To help achieve this goal, the COC is looking for a creative, energetic, organized, and adaptable person with a passion for opera to develop its adult programs.

In addition to programs for schools, youth and community partners, the COC offers an array of events and programs targeted to engage current and new adult audiences and program participants.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Education and Outreach, the Adult Programs Manager is primarily responsible for programming, co-ordination and administration of all the COC’s  adult education and outreach programs including, but not limited to, Opera Insights,  Opera Connect, Opera Talks, Pre-performance Opera Chats; on-going assessment and  evaluation of all programs to ensure points of engagement for audience members/participants at all levels of experience and interest; programming and supporting other public engagement initiatives;  supporting Communications staff in researching and developing marketing materials including website content to promote programs and build awareness, when necessary; fostering new and maintaining existing community and artistic partnerships; facilitating programs when necessary; recruiting, training, scheduling and supervising artist-educators, guest speakers and volunteers; data gathering, analysis and reporting;  and managing programming revenue/expenditures.

As the COC runs over 20 education and outreach programs, all Education and Outreach staff take an active role in support of events outside of their area of focus.

The Adult Programs Manager, Education and Outreach position is an intermediate level, salaried, full-time, permanent position. Evening and weekend work may be required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in education, community arts, arts management or related field of study
  • Five years’ experience in program management, preferably in a non-profit, arts organization
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for opera
  • Appreciation for the collaborative arts, and/or arts education
  • Enjoys working with the public in a facilitation capacity to encourage engagement in the arts
  • Broad knowledge of diverse methods and best practices in audience/participant development
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering and maintaining relationships with a wide range of communities
  • Exemplified superior collaboration, leadership and facilitation skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to handle all situations with professionalism and tact
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced and creative environment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Valid Police Check and Vulnerable Persons Clearance Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to work in and/or learn various digital platforms including Tessitura
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, imagination, creativity, willingness to take risks, and a sense of humour
