Theatre By Committee is currently seeking Director submissions for the inaugural Winter Play Project.
The Project is a three-and-a-half month series of workshops with an aim to grow emerging works through a collaborative process. Selected scripts will have undergone bi-weekly dramaturgical workshops with rotating members of Theatre By Committee to develop their scripts through readings, discussions, and in-studio exploration.
Successful applicants will be directing one of the two scripts that are currently being workshopped with a 4 show run at Glad Day Bookshop, April 14-17th; Kelly Anderson’s Family Debts, or Christian Tribuzio’s Comme Ci, Comme Ca.
Family Debts: Ed and his sister Cara are sent to live on their aunt Lillian’s farm after the collapse of their parents’ marriage. Years later, Ed struggles to reconnect with Lillian, all the while attempting to come to terms with the time they spent together, and the place Lillian took in his life.
Comme Ci, Comme Ca: An ordinary dinner party becomes anything but when the hosts and their guests lose track of who is who. Simon and Hilary appear to be the hosts. Then there's Don, their guest, and finally Phoebe, (better known as Perry) the final guest who bares a rather large secret.
Selected applicants will be called for in-person interviews in Toronto on February 1st.
A rehearsal schedule will be built around the director and team’s availability (Running March 1st until mid-April performances).
Applicants are asked to submit a resume and letter stating their interest. Additional links/reviews/supplementary material are welcome. Both emerging and established directors are encouraged to submit.
Theatre By Committee is a seven member theatre collective of Toronto-based artists. The company aims to create a theatrical laboratory for emerging artists that celebrates the unexpected surprises that come from risk and collaboration. The company recently completed a near sold out run of Lion in the Streets. Under the monicker Bald Monkey, they have produced a sold-out run of Evan Brown's A Tournament of Lies, and Christopher Durang's 'Dentity Crisis.
Scripts can be e-mailed to interested applicants.
Applications close February 26th.
All applications should be e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
