This workshop is a taste of Pandemic’s “disruption” training method. It takes the form of a very simple game based on tangential conversation, pushing the participants past their comfort zones. The game asks: What is permissible and what is unforgiveable? Further – how do we co-exist? The work can be as personal and political as each participant chooses, and is an excellent chance to work on very subtle performed identity. At an “Ideological Disruption Project Jam” you are accountable for everything you say – even if you’re not really being you. Will your own words turn you into: a bleeding heart, a fascist, a misogynist, a racist, an architect, a saint, a hedonist? Maybe you’ll be all of the above. There is no good and evil here, there’s just the elusive process of Ideological Disruption.
We’ll begin with an introduction to the concept of Ideology, and methods of “disruptive” artistic methodology. Following this introduction, participants will engage in a “game” based system of free-form discussion defining character and identity. We will have at least one breakout reflection and analysis period to examine the integration of these ideas by the participants, in which the facilitators will offer guidance at how to advance or augment the process to push further.
All artists should be interested in work that encourages political discourse. This training method is particularly useful for opinionated artists, or those needing an outlet to mull through problematic ideas in a safe environment.
