Aluna Theatre is ahead of the Games, proudly presenting a New Festival of Theatre for Human Rights: Panamerican Routes / Rutas Panamericanas . From May 15-27 , 2012 Aluna hosts some of the most exciting intercultural and interdisciplinary theatre practitioners from the Latin American Diaspora. Joyful, thoughtful, angry, and passionate: these are the new voices of our Panamerican reality.
Our Feature performances connect Toronto to the Latin American Diaspora. The first week features International artists:
Loco7 (from Bogotá via New York) brings stunning dance-theatre and larger-than-life puppetry to the stage with Urban Odyssey
Violeta Luna (Mexico City via San Francisco) offers a more intimate look at the border-crossing experience in Parting Memory .
Week two features Canadian artists with:
Aluna Theatre ’ s award-winning Nohayquiensepa (No one knows) a dance-theatre / multimedia tour de force
Carmen Aguirre's Blue Box (produced by nightswimming and New World): a lively glimpse into a revolutionary ’ s life from the writer of Refugee Hotel and the CBC Reads winner, Something Fierce.
Also on offer: Showcase performances by emerging artists and a work-in-progress by a local hero:
Mayahuel Tecozautla's take on IXOK', a script based on the testimony of Guatemalan women who survived the Mayan genocide of the 1980's (week one)
Showcase night: Wednesday May 16 we open our stage to a cabaret of works in progress by local artists!
Rosa Laborde brings us a tragic comedy about the end of the world in Marine Life (reading, week 2)
