Boy Meets Boy. Boy dances with Boy. Boy gets Boy
… in the end.
WITH SOMEBODY WHO LOVES ME: A GAY DANSICAL is a slick, fun (and a little dirty) dance show similar to a musical but without cheesy singing, and unlike typical dance shows, you will not find any tutus or abstract motifs anywhere in this production. Instead, by employing clever transitions between dance numbers with staging and video, the show creates a cast of characters that you not only get to know, but actually care about, that serve to enhance the emotional impact of each dance piece. Although the characters in this show are gay, all of their problems aren’t. This dansical tells the story of MANNY, a gay man in search of love, and DINA & LYNNE, a lesbian couple that must deal with the harsh reality of job loss and the strain it has on a relationship.
Yet even though MANNY’s entertaining failed attempts at love are as fun and flashy as a drag show, what really puts the gay in this dansical… well, besides the leather man orgy number or the lesbian “make up sex” piece... is that MANNY’s struggles highlight a very serious phenomenon in gay culture - the “anti-effeminate” preoccupation. Like many gay men in the community, MANNY steadfastly prefers ‘masculine men only’ as possible suitors. And throughout the ride, what MANNY commonly accepts as an acceptable preference almost costs MANNY a chance at real love and happiness… begging the question, can gay men be homophobic?
Featuring Toronto dancers Jen Mote (Rock of Ages), Patrizia Gianforcaro (Co-Founder, Lady Luck Productions) and new-comer, Brenner Smith, director and choreographer Frank Manzo (Manzo Entertainment) will wow Toronto audiences this summer with the first ever dansical! WITH SOMEBODY WHO LOVES ME: A GAY DANSICAL is a story told through a fusion of acting, movement, dance, video and music. We all move through life. We all communicate with our body… and boy, does this dansical have a lot to say!

Name: FairyTale Productions, IncMemories: We did several years of chrleidn?s fairy tales. Kansas City, Kansas schools all came as well as lots of other schools from Johnson County and Kansas City, Missouri. Bob Maes played the theatre pipe organ for our shows and made sounds during the show that matched the action on the stage. Our shows were elaborate with huge sets and flies that went up and down and gorgeous costumes creating animals, fabled characters. We did Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and others. We had a blast and we loved it. We Miss this theater and the good times we had entertaining chrleidn. We were here when the Granada was being opened for the first time after being closed for 17 years. We helped paint some of the theatre and fixed flies. We even had the lady from the Missouri Rep Theater come and critique us. She loved us which made us feel great. THANKS for the memories!

Stereotyping it drives me nuts.We get a lot of jisonalruts who just aren't interested in anything other than confirming their preconceived ideas with some evidence' even when the evidence doesn't exist or contradicts what they want to say. Five years after the fact, there are still articles claiming that the number of egg and sperm donors dropped through the floor when the law on anonymity was changed. It didn't the numbers actually went up. If they'd bothered to check the publicly available stats on the HFEA website they'd know this is a non-story but no, bad news is so much more entertaining. Then, and I hate to say it, there are the articles in women's mags who want a very specific story about a grieving infertile couple given hope by a donor and how they had suffered for so long but look there was a happy ending. I know this is what they DO and it's also the kind of story that helps recruit donors, but y'know, it's not the whole picture.
