Nalini Stewart, Board Chair of Necessary Angel Theatre Company is delighted to announce the appointment of Asad Raza as the new General Manager of the Company.

In making the announcement, Ms. Stewart commented " Asad was chosen from a field of excellent candidates. He is a creative, innovative thinker who is keenly aware of the cultural dynamic and its potential in our city. I speak for our entire Board when I say as Asad joins our Artistic Director Jennifer Tarver, we now have an excellent team in place to ensure Necessary Angel remains one of the most creative voices in the city and the country."

In response, Asad said " I see cultural work as a public service and am committed to improving and increasing public access to culture. For me, performance remains the most powerful and effective way to achieve this.

I am honoured to join Necessary Angel. I am in awe of its history and inspired by its guiding spirit of experimentation and excellence. I am thrilled to work with Jennifer and the team in the Company's 40th Anniversary year and to have the opportunity to lead, develop and improve our service to culture and community."

Asad Raza comes to Necessary Angel as its General Manager with over 10 years of experience managing large-scale public art projects and exhibitions. 

For the last 7 years he has programmed, produced and administered ambitious, complex projects at Nuit Blanche Toronto, often working in unorthodox locations. 

From 2010 – 2016, he also directed an experimental art and performance festival in Toronto’s East End called Art of the Danforth

In 2013, Asad managed the pioneering monumental exhibition LandSlide Possible Futures in Markham, Ontario and in 2017, managed Less is More Or, an unprecedented artist-led, privately-funded public art project in Toronto. 

He is a passionate board member of a number of cutting edge organizations attempting unique ideas with culture in the city.
