September 23, 2015 Toronto ON… The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) unveils a new tool that puts cultural access into the pockets of the people of Toronto.
TOnight is the first comprehensive app that brings Toronto performing arts events to your mobile device. The app provides listings of some of the most intriguing theatre, dance, and opera performances happening in and around Toronto. By simply loading TOnight on your mobile device, you’ll have instant access to: up-to-date information about what’s on stage, a virtual theatre map, the ability to share show details via social media, email and text message, and to purchase tickets while on the go. Your virtual T.O.TIX box office is now only a touch away!
“We all know that audiences today are pressed for time and spending their entertainment dollars more selectively,” said Jacoba Knaapen, Executive Director of TAPA. “Building on the success of T.O.TIX - Toronto’s One-Stop Ticket Shop, TOnight is part of the emerging vocabulary of dynamic outreach at TAPA. We are committed to build contemporary audiences with the launch of this new city-wide app.”
TOnight is a cooperative initiative that involves designer and project manager Blair Francey at BFdesign, the Greater Toronto Hotel Association and the Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (BIA). “It is great to be a partner with TAPA to bring TOnight to Toronto! Any time you can apply technology to improve accessibility to arts and culture, specifically to live performance, it helps connect the changing demographic of our neighborhoods which is a benefit to all”, says Mark Garner, Executive Director and CSO of the Downtown Yonge BIA.
“We're pleased to be partnering with TAPA on the TOnight app,” said Terry Mundell, President & CEO of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association. “This is a great opportunity for tourists and locals alike to connect with the incredible performing arts community in Toronto. Download the app today to take full advantage of arts and culture at your fingertips.”
TOnight was made possible through the generous funding support of the following government agencies: Toronto Arts Council, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and the Ontario Arts Council.
TOnight will be available to download (keyword search: Toronto TOnight) for Android and iOS on Wednesday, September 30.
