The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) invites all Canadians to celebrate World Theatre Day on March 27, 2019.
TAPA is proud to support our colleagues at Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC), and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) and and l'Association des théâtres francophones du Canada (ATFC) who have commissioned the 2019 Canadian World Theatre Day message by Sunny Drake - a playwright, actor, and producer whose award-winning plays have been showcased in 55 cities across the world. His message urges viewers to “… find stories that move and sustain us – the stories that inspire us into powerful action”. Mr. Drake further asks “What reality do you want to create?” See the video and full message for Canadian World Theatre Day below.

Created in 1961 by UNESCO, World Theatre Day is marked annually on March 27 by theatre communities worldwide. It celebrates the power of theatre as an indispensable bridge-builder for mutual international understanding and peace and promotes and protects cultural diversity and identity. The 2019 international World Theatre Day message was written by Cuban artist Carlos Celdran. Celdran is a theatre director, playwright, academic, and professor who currently works with his own theatre group, the Argos Teatro. The full message with its multiple translations can be found on the World Theatre Day website.
