The cast of characters in this Tony award winning musical include six overachieving spellers battling for the championship of the local spelling competition, 3 adults rife with their own quirks and four volunteer spellers from the audience.
Sunday November 8th from 1‐6pm
Wednesday November 11th from 7‐10pm
Sunday November 15th from 5‐10pm
1. Prepare one contemporary musical theatre song — up-tempo or ballad —not from Spelling Bee. Please bring printed sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist. Do not bring your music on an iPad or other tablet device; do not bring in pre-recorded accompaniment; do not plan to sing a cappella. People auditioning may also be asked to do some basic range and musicianship tests.
a very short (one‐minute)contemporary monologue.
3. You may be asked to do some improvisation work using your song or your monologue.
4. If you have available, please bring a photo (photocopy is fine) and a resume. Otherwise, arrive in time to fill out necessary information and to have your photo taken. Also indicate any rehearsal conflicts. There will be no dance audition at the initial audition; however, some re‐directs may incorporate an opportunity to show how you use physicality and movement to create a character.
Sunday, November 15th 5:00‐10:00pm
Actors called back will be given a schedule specific to the character(s) for whom they are being considered. The producer will communicate the schedule by e‐mail on Thursday, November 12 and will also send the musical selection(s) and sides needed to prepare for the call‐back.
There will be a full group movement/dance audition at approximately 7:00pm that everyone who is being called back must attend.
