Dreamerz Productions is seeking submissions for strong singers/actors in our 2nd Workshop of the original musical ‘Billy & the Dreamerz’. The workshop will take place in Toronto, July 17th to 27th, 2019.
Set in the tumultuous political and cultural landscape of the UK in the 1980s, Billy & the Dreamerz tells the story of a group of working class friends who form a garage band, not knowing that it will change their lives forever. When tragedy strikes, Billy must choose between love, fame and family.
Billy & the Dreamerz explores the gulf between opportunity and obligation - a gulf that is ultimately bridged by love.
All roles require strong singing, acting and the ability to deliver dialogue with a convincing British accent.
Sarah (female 20s, any ethnicity)
Keyboardist for the Dreamerz, she is intelligent, empathetic, attractive and studies art at Portsmouth Poly. Billy’s love interest.
The following characters will also read minor roles &/or sing harmony.
- Vet (male 60’s)
An ethereal military veteran, Royal Marines, who opens and closes the musical – echoes the character of the Guardian Angel in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’.
- Ronnie (male 20s, any ethnicity)
Lead guitarist, brash, full of energy and a protector of his bandmates. He was kicked out of high school for fighting in defense of his friend Trevor (drummer for the Dreamerz).
- Eva (female, 20s)
Rich, attractive, she ended her relationship with Billy at the request of her Upper Class family. Billy’s Femme Fatale.
- Frank (male, 50s)
Billy’s father, previously a member of the Royal Marines choir. He is caring and dutiful but conflicted by the loss of his own dreams as a singer.
- Jimmy (male 40s, any ethnicity)
A larger than life American concert promoter.
Those selected for an audition will be asked to prepare a short paragraph of dialogue from the book, with a convincing British accent and thirty-two bars of an original song from the musical.
Dreamerz Productions will only contact individuals selected for auditions. At time of notification, text, sheet music and an instrumental track with and without guide vocals will be provided.
To be considered for an audition you must submit;
1) Singing samples – either as an audio or video file or a link
2) Recent headshot
