We are all people.
The recent travesty down south has a lot of people feeling and acting as if we are not, and that is simply not okay.
If you wear a hijab, I'll sit with you on the train.
If you're trans, I'll go to the bathroom with you.
If you're a person of colour, I'll stand with you if the cops stop you.
If you're a person with disabilities, I'll hand you my megaphone.
If you're an immigrant, I'll help you find resources.
If you're a survivor, I'll believe you.
If you're a refugee, I'll make sure you're welcome.
If you're a veteran, I'll take up your fight.
If you're LGBTQ, I won't let anybody tell you you're broken.
If you're a woman, I'll make sure you get home ok.
If you're tired, me too.
If you need a hug, I've got an infinite supply.
If you need me, I'll be with you. All I ask is that you be with me, too.
If you are still reading this and feel like this is a message you can get behind, it is likely that you are right for this project. It is also likely that you, like me, believe in the healing power of art. I want to create a message of hope that inspires love and unity in these scary times in the form of a video featuring clips from the election, 10-30 dancers, and my choreography (a mixture of contemporary and open) set to "Shake It Off", by Florence and the Machine.
This will be a one day shoot where I will be choreographing and recording as we go, over a span of approximately three hours during the day on either Thursday or Friday of next week. This is a non-paying project, all I can offer you is friendship and a digital copy of the finished product. Still interested? Send an email with a headshot, resume, and preference for Thursday or Friday (8 or 9 December) to firstname.lastname@example.org by 12:00p.m. Monday, 5 December.
Peace and love,
