Sunday March 3, 2019 10am - 3pm
The Chimera Project’s Company B Lab is a one-of-a-kind free contemporary dance mentorship program for exceptional artists. It is intended as a bridging program for a select group each year, offering challenges, tools and support to continue their transition into the professional milieu.
The age range is 19 – 25, though there are exceptions. Company B Lab members typically participate for one to five years.
Dancers have access to a supportive network structure of artists, and receive one-on-one professional and peer mentorship.
Structure:
March 10 – July 28, 2019
Sundays, 10am – 3:00pm
Mondays, 6:00pm – 8:30pm
Content:
Each month a different choreographer will workshop and explore their material with artists of the company, culminating in an in-studio showing.
At the end of the season, all works will be performed in an end-of-year compilation.
Dance artists will have many opportunities to connect with the guest choreographers, as well as engage in one-on-one mentorship guidance with Artistic Director Malgorzata Nowacka-May or Artistic Producer Emilio Colalillo if desired.
Supplementary strength training is offered throughout the season to those who wish to participate.
Requirements
- Strong contemporary dance technique (or the desire to learn it). Dancers traditionally come from post-secondary dance training institutions; however, we have also had martial artists-turned-dancers, First Nations dancers, and ballet dancers.
- Clearly-defined goals as to what the applicant would like to gain from being part of Company B Lab.
- Good communication skills, and being open to learning how to communicate clearly and quickly.
- Commitment. We only work with artists who are able to commit for the shows and rehearsals. It is possible to navigate multiple work schedules, school shows, injuries and travel and still be a strong part of the Company B Lab experience.
