Audition, Industry Listing.

OntarioDANCE ANIMAL, the world’s only comedic-dance-tribe, is excited to announce auditions for our Toronto chapter.

We are looking to cast 7 leads (4 males & 3 females) and 2 understudies (1 male & 1 female) for our Toronto Fringe Festival production (June 29 - July 10, 2016).

NO FORMAL DANCE TRAINING REQUIRED TO AUDITION. We are not looking for the best dancers but rather the most sparkling personalities. Natural co-ordination, strong face work and any kind of movement/athletics in your background will be an asset. All shapes, sizes, sexual orientations and ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Note that Dance Animals are like a cross between rock stars and super heroes. We go on stage with huge energy and huge character. Those who play small will disappear.

Dance Animal mixes the high camp of musical-theatre dance routines with sketch comedy and character monologues. Accolades include winners of the Just for Laughs “Best Comedy” Award and the Cirque du Soleil “Best Original Creation” Award.

Dance auditions will be on Wednesday, March 2 from 2pm - 5pm in the gym at Trinity St Paul’s United Church (427 Bloor St West just west of Spadina). You will either be assigned to attend between 2:00-3:30 or 3:30-5:00. If required, further auditions may be held on Friday, March 4 at 4pm.

For those who have never attended a dance audition, you will be taught a short routine and then brought in by groups. Eliminations will happen on the spot. Wear clothing and shoes that you feel comfortable moving and sweating in. Water recommended. Please be prepared to stay the full 90 minutes.

Those who make it past the dance audition will be asked to return for a monologue audition. You will need to write a 1-2 minute monologue as your Animal character. Monologues do not need to be perfect. We just want an idea of your writing style. Sample monologues will be provided.

Rehearsals will begin in March. We will be working 2-3 times a week until the Fringe. We start early as we need to build your fitness to get you through an hour-long physical show.

For an audition slot, please send your resume and head shot to Robin Henderson at by Mon Feb 29. You will also need to bring a hard copy of both your resume and head shot to the audition. Union and non-union welcome. Equity members will be engaged under the Festival Policy.
