Human Burrito Productions is holding auditions for its production of Decaying Tongue for the Toronto Fringe Festival 2019! This is an original piece premiering at Toronto Fringe.

Show dates:
7 performances within July 3 - 14, 2019.

Here is the premise of the play:
What do you do when your own people deny who you are? Should you feel guilty that you prefer your other half more? Aya navigates through life as she experiences multiple culture shocks moving back and forth between her home country, Japan and her other home, Canada. Decaying Tongue explores clash of cultures and what it means to find your footing with a diverse background in the 21st century.

Characters:
Aya — A woman in her 20s. Independent and honest.
彩 — A woman in her 20s. Cautious and polite.
Paul — A man in his 20s. Ignorant and loud.
Rita — A woman in her 20s. Kind and friendly.
Mom — A woman in her 50s. Cheerful Japanese mother.
Dad — A man in his 50s. Traditional Japanese father.
Yoko — A woman in her 30s. Manager of restaurant.
Old Lady — A woman in her 70s. A rude pedestrian.
Matt — A man in his 20s. Film maker. Caring.

Auditions:
Auditions will be held within the City of Toronto on March 1st (evening) and March 2nd (during the day). Call backs, which will be a group workshop, are scheduled for March 3rd.

We are looking for a total of 5 actors. Majority of roles will be double casted besides roles of Aya and 彩. We encourage performers who identify as Asians to apply (You do not necessarily have to be able to speak Japanese, but there are Japanese words and phrases throughout the play. ) We also encourage performers who identify as immigrants to apply.

We welcome applications from both equity and non-union performers. Please note that this is a PROFIT SHARE and if union performers are chosen they will be engaged under the Collective Policy. As this is a profit-share production, there is no guarantee of pay.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will be held 2-3 times a week starting end of March. Rehearsals will be most likely on weekday evenings.

To be considered for an audition, please send us your artistic resume and most recent headshot in a pdf format to marinadoestheatre@gmail.com by February 25, 2019. In the e-mail, please let us know whether you belong to a union or not. In addition, notify us if there are any concerns for audition schedules.
