About the company:
Fancy Bits Theatre is a Toronto based indie theatre company committed to producing all women, cutting edge and daring, comedic shows in interesting and immersive spaces.
About the play: Seven woman of wealth and privilege embark on a rustic, chic retreat of #selfcare. Can these women find health and happiness through jade eggs, juice cleanses and homemade chia berry jam? Or will it take something much darker and sinister to help them finally feel #nourished. Nourishment is a dark absurdist comedy about our society’s obsession with health and wholeness. The vision for Nourishment Is to create a multidisciplinary piece of theatre that explores and critiques the current health trends that consume the 1% as well as the cultural appropriation that comes with sage ceremonies, Yoni eggs and the use of eastern medicine by white women. Using a diverse cast of different ages, races and gender identities all dawning blond wigs the show will use physical theatre, dance, and live music to convey a bouffon version or grotesque exaggeration of the Gwyneth Paltrows in our society and in ourselves.
Auditions will run March 2nd and 3rd.
Rehearsals to start the 2nd week of March
Performances April 19th and 21st.
Unfortunately this is profit share. However Mani (the creator) will be doing everything in her power to accumulate more funds for those involved and the hope is that this show can grow past the festival and eventually lead to a fully payed, living wage run.
Deadline Feb 25th 11:59pm
