Cahoots Theatre, is auditioning for a one-week workshop in May 2019 of HILOT MEANS HEALER, a new play by Jo SiMalaya Alcampo.

SYNOPSIS: Set in the Philippines after the devastation of World War II, this interdisciplinary historical drama is about one family’s attempt to heal soul wounds born from atrocities and occupation, through the touch of plants and the hope found in the garden of a healer. We are auditioning for the following characters:

Alma: A young Filipina woman in her early 20s. Surviving the war in Manila. Lost her family. Lives with an elder who tries to teach her healing skills. Alma prefers to teach herself weapon-making and blade fighting skills instead.

Alfredo: A young Filipino man in his early 20s. Lost his family to the war, then joined the Hukbalahap as a guerrilla fighter. Has recently migrated to Manila to escape his past. He is uncovering an unexpected affinity for plants and the healing arts.

Ligaya: A spirit from the pre-colonial past, conjured into the present. An ageless warrior with the ability to flow with the elements (water, fire, wind, earth, etc.). A witness to the brutal invasion of Spain on the lands formerly known as Sugbo, now known as Cebu.
