About the show:
There is No Word for Wilderness (TNWW) is a land-based theatrical nature walk brought to life with mask, puppetry and live music. The story follows a young woman as she ventures into the wilderness where she meets several animal travel companions who help guide her through the forest. While lost, she finds what she’s been missing most. TNWW is an immersive and timely story that asks us to reconsider our relationship to the environment through humour, movement and a little bit of magic.

TNWW aims to reconnect urban audiences to land and water through an immersive and interpersonal theatre experience. Now is a crucial time for the collective development of environmental care and protection, and it begins with strong human relationships to the natural world. Reconnection, we believe, is a matter of urgency.

At the end of the play audiences gather around a campfire for an Anishinaabe teaching and Sacred Fire Ceremony led by Anishinaabe Kwe Shelba Deer. Shelba gives a teaching about the land and an offering to Shkagamik-Kwe (Mother Earth).

About the roles:
OWL (aka WISE ONE): A great grey owl, an elder, a healer. She speaks in oracles. Can be played by any gender and any age. Mask character.
HARE: Narrator of the story. Wordsmith. Leads Young Woman and audience on the journey. Puppet.

Mask, puppet and outdoor theatre experience is an asset. Please indicate in your application any physical theatre, dance, puppet and/or mask experience and what role you are interested in auditioning for.

Please note that the performance place on a nature trail in Earl Bales Park and that scenes are staged along the trail with no formal stage.
