Audition Date: Tuesday, February 20, 7-9 PM, The Commons Theatre, 587a College St.
Project Dates: Must be available on Saturday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 13th.
We are creating an original comedy piece about prominent women and experiences that have impacted women throughout historical events. Our aim is to workshop it until it is ready to be performed at various theatre festivals, starting with a workshop performance at Open Open Open on March 13th.
Performed like a Second City show, performances with group, double, and solo mini acts all leading to the 2016 US election where Hilary will WIN the presidency. The idea is for each performer to write a sketch, monologue, or musical piece that will be workshopped in a fluid storyline together.
We want to tell a story of how being a feminist has nothing to do with how you look, what you wear, who you date, or how often you have sex. Being a feminist doesn’t mean you think women deserve special rights; it means you know we deserve equal ones! Our piece is a compilation of different women, in different time periods, telling different stories from their character's perspective.
There are some people who believe that feminism is a thing of the past — that we don’t need it anymore because the patriarchal system no longer exists. Living in a post #metoo and Time’s Up world, we want to inform our audience why Feminism isn't a negative, but a necessity.
VARIOUS ROLES, Female or Female Identifying, [25-35] All Ethnicities Welcome: Various, strong, female historical characters, some inspirations include Laura Secord, Rosa Parks, Betty Freidan, Sandra Day O’Connor, Oprah. We are looking for actors with comedic chops. Writing skills are an asset but not a necessity. Improv skills and interest in collective creation are important. We will be writing the sketches
and basing them off historical figures.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please prepare a short 1-2-minute monologue, as well as be prepared to answer the question: Who is a strong historical female figure that has inspired you and why? Please submit a copy of a headshot and resume to: firstname.lastname@example.org
