Thanks to the generosity of community-minded artist Michael J. Fox, the Canada Council for the Arts is recognizing the work of France Geoffroy, (in French) a dancer and educator who also campaigns for the recognition of integrated dance.

This outstanding artist has made a name for herself in the arts practiced by people who are Deaf or with other disabilities. By recognizing the excellence of this pioneer of integrated dance in Quebec, the Canada Council takes one more step to support equity, one of its most valued principles.

When Mr. Fox received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards in 2017, he chose to give back the accompanying cheque to the Canada Council, which subsequently used the money to create the Michael J. Fox Award, a one-time prize of $25,000.

France Geoffroy will officially receive the Michael J. Fox Award on June 2 during the National Ballet of Canada’s Sharing Dance Day at Émilie Gamelin Park in Montreal.

Congratulations to France Geoffroy and 25,000 thanks to Michael J. Fox!
