Seeking Four black male actors for reading of original work, CLASS by Shakura Dickson as part of rock.paper.sistahz festival. Reading is MAY 6TH.
CLASS explores life at Horace University, an HBCU, or historically black college in the United States. Students from all over the African diaspora that is America come together in the mecca of education and history. A Different World meets Degrassi. The Work will have one 15 minute reading as part of the festival which aims to showcase black female voices. Class seeks to cast the following roles:
CALVIN, black, 19. FRESHMAN. Calvin is a thoughtful, sweet, small town boy with a thirst for knowledge and justice. Dwayne Wayne meets Malcolm X. He is quiet and charming, but he has read enough James Baldwin to know the fight is never over.
MALIK, black, 19. FRESHMAN. Malik is a straight up Oakwood boy. Calvin's roommate. Kendrick Lamar meets a young Will Smith. He is a musician, a poet, and is used to people not seeing past his skin and his hometown. He comes to Horace on Scholarship. The funny guy, but always has a bit of an edge. Must be comfortable speaking in AAVE.
TREVOR, black, 23. SENIOR. Trevor is what you would call "bougie". He was born and raised in Laderra Heights, the black Beverly Hills. Orlando Jones meets Malfoy. He is the res advisor and his family's name is on the building.
DEMARR, black, 23. SENIOR. Trevor's best friend. Good old southern boy. Demarr is here for a good time, not a long time. He parties hard, plays football, and chasing girls. Steve Harvey meets Moe from Smart Guy. Must be comfortable with Southern Accent.
