how.dare.collective. is accepting submissions for our upcoming production of Lysistrata, as part of the 2017 Toronto Fringe Festival.
Lysistrata will be a burlesque adaptation of Aristophanes’ greek comedy, set as a site specific piece at The Painted Lady. We are looking for performers with strong dance/movement backgrounds, as well as an affinity for classical text.
how.dare. is committed to diverse, inclusive casting and welcomes submissions from artists of all backgrounds and gender identities.
Auditions will be taking place the afternoon of March 12th. Rehearsals will run from mid April until the start of the festival. We are looking to rehearse 2-3 times per week with the potential for more rehearsal days scheduled in June. The Toronto Fringe runs from July 5th until July 16th, we have ten shows TBD during the run of the festival.
NOTE-The part of Lysistrata has already been cast.
Calonice (Female)- Lysistrata’s loyal friend and neighbour
Myrrhine (Female)- a young housewife from Athens, wife of Cinesias
Lampito (Female)- a representative from Sparta
Magistrate (Male)- a councilman from Athens
Cinesias (Male)- Myrrhine’s husband, also a councilman of Athens
Spartan Envoy/Athenian Officer (Male)
Most roles, especially the ones identified as Male, will be playing various other characters.
Performers must be comfortable with nudity in regards to the use of burlesque in the production.
Lysistrata will be a paid opportunity under the profit share model.
