What are we looking for?

A systems thinker and policy generalist with a gift for writing who is passionate about advocacy and public policy development. The Policy Analyst will strategically contribute to the achievement of ONN’s policy agenda through research, analysis, and writing, as well as the support and engagement of the ONN network. The successful candidate will enjoy working with a small team in a “get stuff done” environment, and will have a passion for working with Ontario’s nonprofits.

Who are we?

Ontario’s nonprofit sector is diverse, with over 55,000 organizations in communities across the province. The Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN) plays a unique role: developing and analyzing public policy, connecting nonprofits across the province about shared opportunities and trends, and channeling collective expertise to find solutions to issues facing the sector. ONN engages its 7,000-strong network to create innovative ways to strengthen the nonprofit sector.

What will the Policy Analyst do?

Reporting to a Policy Advisor, and working with ONN’s staff, Policy Committee and various working groups, the Policy Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Policy research, analysis, development and advocacy focused on priorities within ONN’s three main public policy areas that critically affect the ability of nonprofits to achieve their missions:
    • People (labour force and volunteers)
    • Financing (funding, social enterprise policy environment)
    • Regulatory environment
  • Contributing to the strength of the nonprofit sector through identification, development and creation of solutions for systemic policy issues affecting the sector
  • Convening and providing policy/logistics support for ONN’s policy committee and working groups
  • Convening nonprofits on established and emerging issues
  • Presenting to nonprofits at regional meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Providing general policy development support to our network

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in public policy, nonprofit management, political studies, or related field
  • A strategic and critical thinker, with strong policy development, research, and analysis skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective convenor of stakeholders and an understanding of how multi-stakeholder environments function
  • Ability to design, plan and carry out complex assignments within tight deadlines
  • Job experience working in the nonprofit sector (2-3 years minimum)

Job Specifications

  • Three-year position (with possibility of renewal), full-time (37.5 hours/week); extended health benefits after three-month probationary period
  • Salary: $55,000 (non-negotiable)
  • Open-concept office based at Yonge/St Clair, Toronto, Ontario
