Nightswimming is a dramaturgical theatre company with a national mandate focused on research, creation and performance through commissioning and developing new Canadian plays, musical works and dance. Through the creation of these new works, Nightswimming is devoted to advancing the field of dramaturgy – the exploration of theatrical stories and how they are told – and play development in Canada.

The Opportunity
Nightswimming is seeking an experienced Producer to collaborate with Artistic Director Brian Quirt on the leadership of the company as it moves into its third decade of commissioning and developing new works. The Producer works closely with the Artistic Director, both of whom report to the Board of Directors.The Producer is responsible, with the Artistic Director, for sustaining the creative and administrative vision of Canada’s only purely dramaturgical company. The company’s priorities are collaboration, partnership, mentorship, diversity and a commitment to long-term relationships with artists creating new works through a process unique to their specific project. The Producer collaborates on all elements of play development and oversees the company’s administrative operations. Producing on location and attending conferences and festivals to promote the company’s work are important components of the position.

The candidate should be a skilled manager and leader with a minimum of five (5) years of experience with with a professional arts organization, preferably in theatre producing and/or administration, and ideally should have experience with new play development and creative process. A desire to promote the company, its artists, their projects and their desire to break new ground artistically is central to the Producer’s position.

S/he should have excellent written and oral communication skills, be proficient with standard computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office), and be able to work independently and as part of a creative team. Experience with CADAC, PACT, CAEA, CTA and arts councils is essential; experience with with accounting software, Photoshop, social media and WordPress is an asset.
