Equity Showcase through its Cayle Chernin Memorial Fund is proud to announce major changes to the 6th Annual Cayle Chernin Awards to be held at The Heliconian Hall Wednesday May 17, 2017 at 7:30.

Established in 2012 to honour the life and work of actor, documentary filmmaker, writer, teacher and mentor Cayle Chernin (1947 – 2011). The Cayle Chernin Awards are presented to emerging or transitioning female artists to assist in the creation, development or production of a new work. The Equity Showcase Cayle Chernin Memorial Fund  is very proud of the past recipients of the CCA’s: Collette Micks , Susanna Fournier , Fenulla Jiwani , Melissa D’Agostino , Audrey Dwyer , Jani Lauzon  and Andrea Scott

From 2012 to 2014 the Cayle Awards in Theatre and Media Arts rotated. 2015, 2016 both awards were presented. And for 2017 in addition to two new awards and the increased cash prize, we are proud and fortunate to have CSARN (Canadian Senior Artists Resource Network) Mentorships to support the work of the Recipients:

The CCA Media Arts Award: Production and the CCA Theatre Award: Production each comprise

  • $2500.00 Cash Prize
  • access to a respected paid Industry Mentor through CSARN (Canadian Senior Artists Resource Network) www.csarn.ca
  • and traditionally the CCA’s in Production receive in-kind industry services, This year WF White International has increased  thier in kind services support towards the Media Arts Award /Production to $ 2500.

Investment, Experience and Services.

The NEW CCA Theatre: Development and the CCA Media Arts: Development each comprise

  • a $1000.00 Cash Prize
  • access to a respected paid Industry Mentor through CSARN (Canadian Senior Artists Resource Network) www.csarn.ca.

Cayle Chernin’s professional journey began co-starring in Don Shebib's 1969 classic film Goin'Down the Road and came to a close with Mr. Shebib’s acclaimed sequel Down The Road Again, 40 years later. Ms. Chernin was loved for her generosity, imagination, perseverance, talent and her welcoming smile. Cayle was valued for her commitment to women's issues, serving as an elected councillor on the board of ACTRA Toronto, as co-chair of the ACTRA Toronto Women’s Committee (TAWC) and on the board of Equity Showcase Theatre until her passing in February 2011.

Cayle Chernin’s career spanned four decades in film and on stage, developing new works and encouraging young artists. An overview of her career can be accessed at www.caylechernin.com.
