Theatre Lab

THEATRE LAB's inaugural FIRST SIGHT is a new production series described by Co-Artistic Directors Michael Orlando and Omar Hady as:

“An outlet and platform for creators to take massive risks, without the financial pressures of mounting a show.” THEATRE LAB is seeking submissions from artists of all disciplines who are interested in a public showcase of a new work. THEATRE LAB will provide the performance space, and production support.

FIRST SIGHT will provide the chosen artists with three consecutive showcase opportunities in the month of November 2015; each showcase will be a part of the larger series. THEATRE LAB will promote the series as a whole, administer all advanced sales, co-ordinate with the venue and offer mentoring from one of the company's core members.

The chosen artists will be responsible with providing a minimum of 30 to a maximum of 45 minutes of ‘new work’. THEATRE LAB will not interfere with any artistic or production elements of each work. The chosen artists will need to promote their individual dates (and hopefully the series as a whole).
THEATRE LAB encourages submissions from all performance disciplines and all scopes. We encourage you to use this opportunity to present work that takes significant artistic risks.

Interested artists should submit a one-page proposal (please, no more than that). If your work is not already known to us please provide us with a brief Bio/CV. When submitting, specify your discipline (from the list below), and let us know if you want to take advantage of a mentoring opportunity.

Work accepted (but not limited to):
- Theatre / Musical Theatre / Documentary Theatre / Theatre for Young Audiences
- Puppetry
- Performance Art
- Staged Readings
- Musical Acts
- Improvisation / Stand-up Comedy / Sketch Comedy

A few other things:
1. This must be a 'New Work': meaning this must be the first time this material or portions of this material have ever been shown to the public.
2. Favourable consideration will be given to projects that take 'significant artistic risks'.

All Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of THEATRE LABs core members. Selected applicants will then engage in a secondary round of conversation with the group.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday October 9th, 2015
Please submit all applications as a single document, as well as any questions concerning FIRST SIGHT to Please put FIRST SIGHT in the subject line.
