Are you an Indigenous artist developing new work?
We're calling on choreographers, playwrights, and interdisciplinary arts creators to submit for Weesageechak Begins to Dance 29, our annual festival of Indigenous works. Deadline to submit is April 15, 2016.
Programmed works receive dramaturgical/directorial support, rehearsal time and a public showing in Aki Studio this November. Complete a submission form on our website or contact Festival Producer Jessica Lea Fleming with your submission questions. Native Earth Performing Arts’ annual Weesageechak Begins to Dance festival is a celebration of new works and works in development produced by Native Earth Performing Arts, Canada’s oldest professional Indigenous theatre company.
Each November, Native Earth selects dance, theatre and interdisciplinary works reflecting Indigenous performing arts in Canada and internationally to be presented or to receive development support and a workshop production during the two-week festival. We encourage performing artists of all disciplines and at any stage in their career to apply. Curated by a selection committee, in order for a submission to be eligible, the primary artist or artists must identify as Indigenous.
