Thursday, January 11, 6:30-9:30pm
Generator, 192 Spadina Ave, Suite 201
The "Return" (get the tax joke?) of this incredibly popular workshop - 100% of participants recommend it and say it is money well spent and a STEAL OF A DEAL.
You got the grant, you booked the Festival, the show is happening, you deposit your cheque...now what? Many independent artists use their personal bank accounts for art projects without really knowing what we are doing or what risks we are exposing ourselves to. Generator's Financial Administrator and artists' tax preparer Tova Epp will take you through the things you really need to know and common mistakes:
Self-employment vs. personal expenses
Keeping track of project expenses and what is tax deductible
Claiming individual grants on your income tax
HST and government filings

WORKSHOP LEADER: TOVA EPP (outgoing Financial Administrator @ Generator)
In Tova Epp's 20+ years in film and theatre she has worked as a prop builder, set and costume designer, stage manager, producer, playwright, actress...pretty much everything but directing, which she really doesn't want to do. To keep a roof over her head, Tova has a small bookkeeping business and prepares tax returns for artists and other self employed types at Artbooks. Her greatest pleasure is in helping other creatives understand and run their businesses better. When not auditioning or preparing tax returns, Tova can usually be found running along the lake and volunteering with Annex Cat Rescue.
Generator has a TON of workshops coming up this month - two sessions of Excel for Producers and 4 new sessions on Financial Literacy for producers. Learn more here .
