Beginning in 2015, in addition to our Wilderness Canada project Wilderness Wendings we shall introduce 2 New Programs in Europe under the umbrella title On The River.

This year we shall begin a pilot project and conduct theatre apprentice in the south of France at Las Teouleres between Toulouse and Bordeaux, in association with Centre International de Recherche et de Formation Théâtral, (CIRFT) artistic director Katharina Seyferth. This year the theme of the project is Theatre & Performance Soundings, a 10 to 12 day Master Classes for Performers.
- The second new European project is called The Archetypal Images of Love Lust and Eros A Theatre Performance Project, to be centred in Bruxelles, Belgium a multi – lingual, multicultural theatre research and performance project which would incorporate participants from Europe, Mexico and Canada.
Please contact us if you are interested to become a part of any one or both of these projects.
Please see the descriptions of the projects below:
August 5 to 26 Wilderness Wendings 2015
An annual event in the James Bay Frontier in Northern Ontario on the Montreal River and is conducted by the Ensemble of LeTHAL & le contre-courant
For past participants this year we shall be incorporating aspects of the Ritual Actions to the work process within the wilderness context of Northern Ontario. We see this as a deepening of the erotic process which opens new possibilities for the participants in developing a deeper relation to the elements of earth, wind, water and fire as we work and play within nature.

- Wilderness Wendings #2 August 17 to 26, 2015
Fees: Wilderness Wendings #1: 10 days: regular $1350 students $ 1000

Wilderness Wendings 2015
immersion in silence stillness solitude a return to sources primal rhythms
Conducted by members of LeTHAL & le contre courant
Much of the work / play in the wilderness is to establish the context for direct experience through doing - not simply theorizing about wilderness; to recognize in practice the correspondences between wilderness and human being: with the wind, the rain, the sun, the rock, the water, the fire. To discover balance in the body, and to see the wilderness not as a foe to be conquered but as an essential landscape of one’s soul: to play in wilderness is to play with the images of one’s own Soulscape. It is a return home to the original Soulscape, four billion years old. Need one add that we must be the caretakers of this priceless heritage!
Wilderness Wendings - begun in 1979 - are conducted annually during August in the James Bay Frontier of Northern Ontario Canada. The journeys happen on and along the Montreal River System between Gowganda and Matachewan. The system includes many tributaries, lakes and islands. In former times, this river was used by the old fur traders who paddled their canoes from Montreal to Moose Factory and later by the lumberjacks who used the system to float their logs down from Northern Ontario to the sawmills of Ottawa and Hull. The Montreal River System runs through the Precambrian Shield, parts of which are over four billion years old.

Theatre Apprentice - Theatre & Performance Soundings - 10 day Master Classes for Performers in the South of France For photos and description of the Las Teouleres environs go to the website: www.toule.net in association with Centre International de Recherche et de Formation Théâtral, (CIRFT) artistic director Katharina Seyferth.) 32 Rue Des Armuriers, 32100 Condom, France. La Frontière du Gers, des Landes et du Lot & Garonne (2 hours by bus on the routes, either from Bordeaux or Toulouse).
This project is founded on and a continuation of our previous work in Canada called Theatre Apprentice, which was an Ensemble collaboration by Actor’s Laboratorium / Toronto and le contre-courant / Quebec City. The On The River project invites actors from Canada and Europe to join for 10 to 12 days of Master Classes in Theatre & Performance. As in the past we invite performers to come with projects they want to develop, either as solo performance pieces, or develop audition texts (we will focus here on how to prepare for auditions, and self presentation), or to work on specific texts and / or songs; we invite seasoned performers as well as theatre apprentices who wish to train within an Ensemble context; all training is intense and is conducted in Ensemble context and follows the Soundings format, an in - depth exploration of body, voice, rhythms, songs and texts and scene studies. By coming to France participants are forced to leave their homes, the habits of daily life and enter into an Immersion into an intense work / play process of the performer’s craft. Major focus is on performance within the Ensemble context. Participants can work in the language of their choice. An outline of the training program and the daily work / play schedule and the fee structure is available upon request.
The Training Process: To go forward, one must first go back. Training to develop craft is the constant repetition of meeting, confronting and overcoming oneself: laziness, automatisms in actions, false reliance on habits and techniques; a return to sources. Craft is not a linear process. It is cyclic. The work/play on craft and oneself is a continual process and is never a finished product. It is not to search for perfection but for wholeness and the ability to balance the polarities and extremes uncovered within the creative act.
The Theatre & Performance Soundings project is circumscribed by the environment - in this case the rural conditions of Las Teouleres (see the physical location on the website listed below); the work /play involves creating and/or invoking the Eco-rhythm determined by the context at Las Teouleres: The Atlantic ocean: swimming, doing nothing - ; the open fields, the animals; day and night; sun and moon: all the elements of nature.

On The River project
The Archetypal Images of Love Lust and Eros A Theatre Performance Project, to be centred in Bruxelles, Belgium
For the past several years Compagnie Achtli, based in Bruxelles, (Artistic Directors Kathy Contreras Nicolas Clément) and I have been discussing the possibilities of creating a multi – lingual, multicultural theatre research and performance project which would incorporate participants from Europe, Mexico and Canada.
The project’s working title is The Archetypal Images of Love and Eros. The artistic vision is described below.
To begin this project we propose to open the project up to performers who want to participate through a year – long (2015 / 16) audition process - in various European & Canadian cities to be announced - beginning in Bruxelles in April 2015, and co-ordinated with a series of soundings in various cities in Europe, Canada and Mexico. From the participants we shall select an Ensemble of 7 to 10 performers.
We begin the soundings / auditions this April 2015 in Bruxelles. The organizers will provide a number of poems, scenes, monologues dealing with the themes of love and Eros. We encourage participants – if they so desire - to use texts in their native language and / or to translate the texts they wish to use from the recommended texts in the attachments. As the project evolves we will continue to search for other texts.
Additionally we are looking for more collaborators and organizers who can help to realize this project both artistically and administratively; if you and / or your group would like to join please let us know.
If you are interested to participate in this project as a performer and / or wish to make comments or ask questions please contact the following organizers.
