What creative opportunities would be possible if theatre artists took advantage of the diverse cultural forms and processes that are available in Canada’s theatrical communities to explore new theatrical forms?
"Beyond Representation" is a three day symposium hosted by Modern Times as part of the company's "Postmarginal" project, which explores how cultural diversity can become completely integrated into theatre creation. "Beyond Representation" will offer a knowledge-base on how to transition cultural diversity in the theatre from exercises in identity politics into a form of contemporary theatrical practice. Panels include: Directing Across Difference, Beyond Accents, The Critical Difference and a roundtable on gender fluidity hosted by TAPA.
The symposium will be held April 9 - 11, 20-17 at Daniels Spectrum (Ada Slaight Hall and Aki Studio), 585 Dundas St. East.
