You’re invited to attend four dynamic and chock-full days of sonic celebration and inquiry at the 2017 Festival of Original Theatre (FOOT)!
FOOT is both an annual academic conference and performance festival that brings together scholars and artists alike for cross-disciplinary exploration and exchange. This year FOOT celebrates both its 25th anniversary as a festival, and the 50th anniversary of the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies (CDTPS).
This year’s theme — Sounding The Inner Ear of Performance — offers an interdisciplinary investigation into the history and evolution of sound and aural experience in theatrical and performative cultures. Festival events will include lecture presentations, panel discussions, ‘collage concerts’, guided audio-walks, interactive installations and workshops.
Festival events include a new performance installation by our featured keynote artist Brandon LaBelle, inspired by the Luella Massey Studio Theatre; performances by Debashis Sinha, Julia Mermelstein, Rebecca Moss, Sally Norris, Toni Lester and Misha Penton; sound installations and environments by Heather Nicol, David Lieberman, Kendra Jones, Parisa Sabet, Anne Marie Ouellet and the Digital Dramaturgy Lab (CDTPS) and much more.
We invite all theatre enthusiasts, artists, educators, students and scholars to join us for a fascinating and diverse exploration of sound in performance.
Admission to all FOOT events is free!
Events will take place at the Robert Gill Theatre
3rd floor, 214 College Street (St. George St. entrance);
The Luella Massey Studio Theatre, 4 Glen Morris St.;
and the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse Performance Studio, 79 St. George St.
