In anticipation of our co-production of The Wolves at The Crowsnest, The Howland Company is inaugurating our fall Reading Group series with another sharply written, ensemble-based American play from 2016.
Tracy Lett’s “Mary Page Marlowe” traces a fragmented portrait of an ordinary woman, from infancy to old age. The puzzle-style play challenges an audience to assemble the picture of its titular character from a series of scattered scenes from her life. Last year’s off-Broadway production was particularly acclaimed for its performances - 6 different actresses shared the role of Mary - and Canada’s Tatiana Maslany, playing her at 27, was a standout.
The Howland Company Reading Group is a free event held in the last week of every month. Anyone is welcome to drop by, cold-read a part in the chosen play (copies are provided and roles are assigned and switched around on the fly) and get the opportunity to engage in discussion, and meet people in the community. On Monday September 24th @ 7:00PM we're thrilled to be returning to the Gladstone Hotel: grab some food, a drink at the bar and then read a play with us at the back of the Melody Bar.
