Sci-Fi Crime Thrillers are not a genre often associated with the stage, but Jennifer Haley's 'The Nether' is a real accomplishment in this relatively unexplored area of playwrighting.
In a near future, the Internet has evolved into a network of infinite Virtual Realities, known as the Nether. Detective Morris has been zeroing in on a particular VR site: trying to determine who has made The Hideaway, one of the Nether's darkest corners..where children are being preyed on.
Tense, surprising and unfortunately more relevant today than when it first premiered 5 years ago, we're excited to read the winner of the 2012 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for February's Reading Group.
The Howland Company Reading Group is a free event held in the last week of every month. Anyone is welcome to drop by, cold-read a part in the chosen play (copies are provided and roles are assigned and switched around on the fly) and get the opportunity to engage in discussion, and meet people in the community.
On Monday February 26th @ 7:00PM we're thrilled to be returning The Reading Group to the Gladstone Hotel: grab some food, a drink at the bar and then come up to read a play with us in Room 214!
