SYNOPSIS:
On an island off the eastern coast of Newfoundland, tucked in Conception Bay, sits a bog. The locals call it Butler’s Marsh. Nobody goes in there, because there’s no telling if you’ll ever come out. The movies get it all wrong, see: fairies are not friendly, they are not to be provoked. The Newfoundlanders know this, of course: the island is riddled with them.
But tonight in Butler’s Marsh, on a night too cold for July, Nora is determined to get to the bottom of her mother’s mysterious disappearance there decades ago. Salt Water Moon meets the Blair Witch Project in this one-act horror play where romance turns sour, as Nora uncovers the disturbing realities of her family history and learns the consequences of burying the truth in a fairytale.
CHARACTERS:
- NORA (open ethnicity, 20-30, woman) – A woman in her late twenties. Chic and stylish, she should look out of place and unprepared.
- TIM (open ethnicity, 25-35, man) – A controlled and confident man in his early thirties. He has a rumbling intensity which is at turns wildly erotic and then undefinably unsettling.
