AUDTIONS
Auditions will by invitation via self tape. Please email your headshot and résumé in one pdf document, along with the names of the character(s) you’d like to audition for to: hunger@alumnaetheatre.com. If selected for an audition, you’ll be asked to submit an audition tape of you performing a contemporary monologue no longer than 2 minutes in length.
The deadline to request an audition is Saturday, August 12 at 5pm.

PLAY SYNOPSIS AND CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS
A timely drama about currency in a time of conflict. In an isolated farmhouse during a time of war, Johanna and Max attempt to hide two persecuted individuals, Isaac and Rivka, in an alcove behind their walls. When the money runs out, they are forced to take in a third refugee, Helen, whose father is willing to pay very well for her safety. But the alcove isn’t big enough for three, and as the war outside reaches its climax, hunger reduces the protectors and the protected alike to a surreal state of desperation.
Hunger was a finalist for the BMO Winterset Award in 2022.
Characters:
JOHANNA (Female 40s, Open ethnicity) A farmer. Max’s wife. Motherly, resourceful, resentful.
MAX (Male 40s, Open ethnicity) A farmer. Johanna’s husband. Practical, cheerful, exhausted.
RIVKA (Female 20s, Open ethnicity) A musician. Isaac’s wife. Clever, confident, cautious.
ISAAC (Male 20s, Open ethnicity) A scholar. Rivka’s husband. Intelligent, gracious, compliant.
HELEN (Female, 16, Open ethnicity) A child of wealth. Bored, naive, unfamiliar.
