Storyline:
An epic exploration of two decades of a family’s survival. Woking Phoenix tells the story of three siblings, their mother, and their restaurant as they seek to find belonging within small-town Ontario. An intergenerational Chinese love story about creating community and the food that reminds us of home.

We are looking for actors who are ideally able to commit to the full tour (or a minimum of two stops if there are scheduling conflicts)

March 8 – March 11, 2027: Technical Rehearsals at Gateway Theatre in Richmond, BC

May 10 – May 16, 2027: Refresher Rehearsals in Toronto, ON

Character Breakdown:
Ma: (35+), fluent mandarin speaker who ages 20 years during the show. The beating heart of the Woking Phoenix, a small town Chinese restaurant in Northern Ontario. A feisty dreamer, who wants the best for her three children after she moves to Canada to build a new life for her family. Quick witted and giver of tough love, but has a well of unspoken and undying affection for her children. Strong mover (dance experience is not necessary, but the performer should have a facility and comfortability with movement and choreography).
The AUDITION:
While we are excited to receive all submissions, only those selected will be seen.
Pending selection, we’ll send sides, a location and timeslot for the audition. There will also be a movement component to the audition where choreographer Hanna Kiel will work with each auditioner.
