Our audition process and workshop will make additional accommodations to ensure all performers can participate. We seek to make the casting process the best it can be for both the creative team and performer, so that everyone has the opportunity to perform at their best and participate in the creation of art and telling stories!
Additional Information: Spindle Collective, along with Riot King, are accepting EQUITY and NON-EQUITY submissions for two ensemble dancer roles in their upcoming workshop of SAMCA. SAMCA, written by Natalia Bushnik and Kathleen Welch, is a dark folktale with original music that examines themes of fertility, abortion, and fear of the ‘feminine’ body. The story follows two sisters who live in a convent in Transylvania in the late 1800’s, and the horrors that occur when one of them becomes pregnant following a sexual assault. The workshop will consist of 8 three hours rehearsals through January-February 2024 in Toronto, ON.
This project was made possible by the Toronto Art Council.
COVID Safety Policy: All artists involved in this project will need to provide proof of vaccination. Hand sanitizer and masks will be available for participants. The workshop will follow COVID safety protocols outlined by the provincial government in regards to capacity and best safety practices. Character Breakdown:
The ZÃNE : Two female-identifying or non-binary dancers to play feminine fertility spirits who guide the audience through the story of Mihaela and Prava. They will be joining our current ensemble cast. Ability to sing or play an instrument is an asset. Please note : This project is collaborative in nature, and we are looking for artists who are interested in creating the physical body / voice of their ‘ZÃNE’. You will be credited as a contributor to the project.
Submission Requirements: Please submit your CV, and a 1 minute video dance demo. Please also include a letter of interest describing your artistic practice and the type of creation styles that excite you. This letter can be in written or audio format; whichever you find most accessible. Please list any conflicts between January – February 2024. Email your materials with the subject line “DANCER SUBMISSION – Performers Name” to spindle.theatre.co@gmail.com by November 30th. Select applicants may be asked to participate in a round of callbacks, with final casting decisions made by December 15th.
