First Born Theatre presents Reading Room: a quarterly event where a new Canadian play meets its actors and its audience for the very first time. No rehearsal. No second takes. You’ll watch as a cast of Toronto actors crack open a script they’ve never seen before and get to know it in real time alongside the play’s first audience.
In Search Of playwrights who:
- Are passionate about New Play Development
- Have a draft of a new play that’s never been witnessed by an audience
- Are based in Toronto/GTA
- prioritize kindness, community, and humour within their practice
- want to work with new actors and expand their artistic network
- create “un-traditional” work that is brave and pushes the bounds of theatre (whatever that means to you)
And actors who:
- Are passionate about New Play Development
- Are based in Toronto/GTA
- Enjoy cold-reading
- prioritize kindness, community, and humour within their practice
- want to work with up and coming playwrights
Participants will earn a small honorarium for their time.
These applications are considered on a rolling basis. When you submit we will add your submission to our database, meaning if we don’t contact you for our upcoming Reading Room you will still be up for consideration for any of our impending Reading Rooms.
We are currently producing our August 26th Reading Room.
We prioritize work from racialized, queer, and underrepresented voices in theatre.
