Aimed at emerging performers, this weekend intensive is designed to help you prepare for ALL elements of an audition – from choosing your monologue, to drafting a cover letter, to leaving a lasting impression.

This course will be delivered in three parts:

Cover Letter and CV Clinic with Mike Payette

  • We all know writing cover letters and updating your CV can feel daunting. Take a couple hours to work on yours with guidance and advice from Tarragon’s Artistic Director.

Choosing and Preparing a Monologue with Jeff Ho

  • Curious to try on new monologues, particularly from Canadian works? Craving a space to take risks and try new approaches to rehearsing / preparing solo texts? This monologue intensive will support your continued practice and preparation as an actor, with practical tools to approaching monologues for various contexts! Come stretch your monologue curiosities through learning and doing with a small group of performers – and leave with perhaps some new pieces in your pocket, & new techniques and insights into shaping your monologue.

The Business of Auditions with Lisa Li

  • This section of the course uses the environment of a general audition to begin the building blocks of articulating and conducting oneself as an informed and perceptive artist while demonstrating authentic confidence “in the room”. Topics covered: audition etiquette, conduct in the room, how to articulate about oneself as an individual, and then as an artist, talk through and discuss one’s artistic statement, what you can expect from the panel at a general audition, resume and headshot feedback, as well as pre- and post-audition protocol. This section of the course will focus on everything BUT the monologue, through the guiding principle that each artist is an entrepreneur, that you are the CEO of your business, and that a good audition is more than just well performed prep materials.

Learn from industry leaders about what to expect and how to share your talent!
