What is Workman Arts Satellite:

Thanks to a $1 million investment over four years from the Slaight Family Foundation, Workman Arts is expanding its art training programs throughout the GTA by partnering with Scarborough Arts, Urban Arts, North York Arts, East End Arts, Arts Etobicoke and Lakeshore Arts. The expanded program tackles the prevalence of social isolation in individuals with mental health issues and the lack of opportunities to build lasting social connections through meaningful engagement outside of the mainstream mental health system. The Satellite program runs training classes between September and March across the 6 different LASO Organizations both online and in person. Each class is approximately 5 weeks in duration once a week. There are around 30 classes total. Each class is also paired with a peer support worker who is there to support that class.

What is Rendezvous with Madness Festival:

This year’s festival runs from October 27-November 6. The Rendezvous with Madness Festival is the first and largest arts and mental health festival in the world. Using art as the entry point to illuminate and investigate the realities and mythologies surrounding mental illness and addiction, Rendezvous With Madness spotlights the human capacity for endurance in the face of great challenges. As community members are feeling the emotional effects of months of isolation, income precarity, and anxiety over what the future holds, the Rendezvous With Madness Festival offers a unique opportunity to come together in reflection and discussion.
