Calling all emerging playwrights!
We are pleased to announce the Emerging Playwrights Reading Series, created and produced by Liza Hersh, Aurora McClennan & The Flare Productions.
To submit, all you need is a 10 – 15 page script sample and a one page script outline. When you have that ready, you can upload them to the Google Form linked below.
The Emerging Playwrights Readings will take place over the course of one week in September 2023, with a maximum of four rehearsal days during the week, and readings of each play occurring at least twice on the following Saturday and Sunday. Exact dates and times will be announced at a later date.
Each play submission will be read and judged by a panel of jury members including established and emerging artists in the Ontario theatre community. Jury members will be announced in the coming weeks. Selected playwrights will be contacted the week of January 16th, 2023.
All playwrights are budgeted to receive $310 plus a share of the box office, however all finances are dependent on grant money and fundraising. Exact payable amounts will be calculated in summer 2023.
Playwrights are welcome to submit more than one script as separate entries. Plays with multiple authors are welcome to be submitted as well.
The Emerging Playwrights Readings are dedicated to ensuring 50% of plays presented are written by and belonging to writers from the BIPOC communities.

Submission Criteria
- Plays must total no more than 1 1/2 hours read time
- All plays must not have received a stage production previously (however can have been through previous workshops)
- Does not have full cast or production team attached
- To be considered, please submit a max 1 page outline, and a 10-15 page sample from the script of the play being submitted. Please note: Submitted plays do not need to be completed at the time of submission, but must be completed by March 2023.
