Canadian Stage, one of Canada’s leading professional non-profit theatres, is searching for a Dramaturgy Intern to join the artistic team. Reporting to the Dramaturg & Artistic Associate, Birgit Schreyer Duarte, this Intern position offers an excellent opportunity to be exposed to the overall artistic activities of a large theatre organization, but will have a strong dramaturgical focus.

Main activities include tasks related to season programming (researching and evaluating new plays and projects, assessing touring productions for potential programming), and new play development (where applicable). If the internship falls into the production period of Canadian Stage, tasks may also include assisting in production dramaturgy (accompanying a production with research support and artistic feedback before and during the rehearsal phase). The successful candidate will also gain knowledge and experience in running Professional Development programs, such as the OAC’s Recommender Grants for Theatre Creators program in which Canadian Stage participates as a third-party recommender and which fosters and supports theatre artists, both established and emerging voices. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to shadow other activities in the artistic department, as they may also be asked to assist the larger artistic team when needed.

Please apply with a 1-page cover letter outlining your interest in the program, resume and three phone references by Friday, Nov 16, 2018 at 5:00pm by email to Birgit Schreyer Duarte, Dramaturg & Artistic Associate, and Scott Leaver, Intern Program Coordinator at and Please note in your cover letter where you saw this posting.

We thank everyone who applies for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.
