The Canadian Opera Company (“COC”) is looking for a creative, energetic, organized, and adaptable person with a passion for opera to lead the Education and Outreach department on an interim basis while covering a maternity leave.

In addition to public programs for children, youth, and adults, the COC offers an array of events and programs that bring opera into schools and academic institutions, and educators and students to the opera. Reporting to the Director, COC Academy, the Interim Associate Director, Education and Outreach is accountable for maintaining the overall vision, short-term goals and objectives, planning, budgeting, and providing input into the future direction of the COC’s Education and Outreach programs and audience development initiatives in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the COC. The candidate upholds the artistic integrity and educational value of the COC’s productions for young audiences, and ensures that the Company’s educational and public programming activities meet the needs of diverse communities, and are built on best practices in learning, pedagogy, and program design.

You will develop, manage, and mentor departmental staff, artist-educators, program staff, volunteers and interns providing positive leadership, encouraging a team approach, professional attitude and positive staff relations. You will also effectively manage all day-to-day operations, including the development, oversight, and execution of a substantial budget.

The candidate will also actively promote and report on all COC educational activities internally and to external stakeholders, undertake new partnerships to enhance the visibility of the organization and to build connections within the community, and continuously assess and evaluate the efficacy of the education and outreach initiatives, and will advocate for changes and programmatic growth when organizationally and strategically beneficial.
