Organization Description
Lua Shayenne Dance Company (LSDC) is a charitable not-for-profit African based dance company whose work delves into the physical investigation of Neo-traditional and contemporary African dance forms and mirrors its African-Canadian social and cultural context. LSDC’s work expands the genre’s profile while offering audiences a different dance experience.

LSDC presents dance works that explore current subject matters with the aim to be a source of social good and spiritual progress. Artistic Director, Lua Shayenne, draws on the aesthetics and values of West African dance and culture and creates dance pieces that seek to upset and challenge multiple conventions and stereotypes. LUA SHAYENNE DANCE COMPANY promotes community development as well as cross-cultural exchange and collaboration with national and international artists.

LSDC has performed at venues and festivals including: Fall for Dance North, Centre Culturel Français Frontenac, Porch View Dances, and Ryerson University’s Parodos Festival to name a few.

LSDC company dancers receive professional training that advance the Mande dance practice and innovation within this dance form. Mande is a family of various ethnic groups from West Africa.
