Toronto Dance Theatre, one of Canada’s leading dance organizations, seeks a forward-thinking, resourceful and experienced MANAGING DIRECTOR
One of Toronto’s most dynamic arts organizations currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT) is internationally recognized for intelligent, provocative and visually stunning contemporary performance. Under the artistic leadership of choreographer Christopher House since 1994, TDT is committed to creative research and the production and dissemination of critically engaged works that speak to a broad audience.
TDT regularly invests in national and international collaborations and tours, while maintaining a vibrant base in Toronto. This special anniversary year features a coast-to-coast national tour, a two-city visit to Colombia and a program of premieres inspired by Christopher House's 1983 masterwork, Glass Houses.
TDT operates with a $1,000,000 budget and performs annually at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre and at the Winchester Street Theatre in Cabbagetown, where it shares its home with the affiliated School of Toronto Dance Theatre. Its Cabbagetown facility includes three studios and a 125-seat performance space. Its annual Creation Residencies provide free rehearsal space, while the biennial Emerging Voices Project is an intensive creative incubator for emerging choreographers. The discussion series Into the Work facilitates an exchange of ideas between artists and audiences, and TDT's Education program provides young people with an immersive experience in contemporary dance.
A motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, the Managing Director will work closely with Artistic Director Christopher House to support and facilitate the realization of the company’s artistic vision.
He or she will have superior planning skills and a proven ability to manage a core staff while working effectively with a Board of Directors. He or she will have substantial administrative experience and the ability to oversee finances, marketing and fundraising initiatives and opportunities. The Managing Director will have a proven ability to recognize, stimulate and act on opportunities for dissemination and relationship-building, and will have an understanding of the requirements of production, touring and national and international collaborations. Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate in French are assets.
Finally, together with the leadership of The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, he or she will be responsible for developing new plans and opportunities for the capital improvements of the facility at 80 Winchester Street, and for coordinating the efficient management of this asset.
