Position Summary
The Theatre Performance program at Humber College is seeking applications for a full-time faculty specializing in Movement for Actors. Humber’s Theatre Performance Program is known for its rigorous training in physical and devised theatre. We are nationally known for our innovative curriculum based in the creation of original work. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and guiding the movement curriculum for a three-year Honours Diploma in original and devised theatre. Will work in close collaboration with other faculty to ensure the development and innovation of appropriate learning methodologies in professional actor training to reflect our changing cultural landscape. The successful applicant will integrate the movement curriculum with specific voice and acting approaches and recommend ongoing curricular changes and modifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the program co-ordinator to manage scheduling, deal with student complaints, provide entry-level counselling for applicants and on-going counselling for students, and to build career pathways for graduating students into the professional theatre community.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (Masters) or equivalent, professional experience as a theatre artist, and experience working in and developing theatre for an intercultural world. Experience working in devised theatre as both a creator and a collaborator, as well as 5 years of teaching experience would be a strong asset. In addition, the successful candidate will have an extensive integrative understanding of multiple approaches to movement and dance in order to develop expressive skills for actors, as well as professional experience integrating movement and dance vocabularies into complex text/scripts. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of how movement training links into performance and will strive to encourage new modes of expression, creating new opportunities for students and developing collaborative and integrative pathways among students and faculty. Will maintain ongoing professional engagement with the theater while developing expertise in cutting edge practice. The successful candidate will possess well-developed interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability in curriculum development and delivery.
