Playwrights Guild of Canada is hiring a Summer Student/Recent Graduate for the position of Program Assistant

The Playwrights Guild of Canada is a national arts service organization serving playwrights across the country.  PGC’s services are run by a 6-person administrative team, with an office located at 450 Broadview Ave, Toronto.  The organization offers professional development programming, connections with producers, contract leadership, awards program, conferences, script sales and advocacy.

The Program Assistant will work closely with the PGC team and report to the Executive Director. 

Responsibilities include:

● Canadian Play Outlet - Assist the Program Manager with:

Order processing

            Inventory system updates

            Reconciling sales reports

            Updating the website

            Social media marketing

            Newsletter preparation

● Communications - Assist the Communications and Outreach Coordinator with:

Online event organization, as scheduled

Communications support, as requested

● Programming - Assist the Executive Director with:

            Statistics research

            Membership survey

            Production survey

● Administrative - Assist the staff with:

Systems updating (Office 365)

Cloud file storage updates

Database updates

The Program Assistant will be required to work with online sales systems, database systems, WordPress, social media, MailChimp, spreadsheets, word processing, email, cloud files.  internal and external stakeholders.


The ideal candidate will be enrolled in or a recent graduate of an arts administration program, performing arts program or business administration program.  The candidate should also have work experience in customer service and point of sales customer interaction.  The candidate should have a strong working knowledge of email, cloud files, word processing, spreadsheets and social media platforms.  The candidate must be able to work independently, meet deadlines and report to supervisors.  Playwrights Guild of Canada welcomes candidates with an interest in or participation in arts and culture, especially theatre and Canadian creation.


July 12 to Aug 27, 2021

Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

35 hours per week, $15/hour

Remote work at present due to Covid-19

Hybrid working arrangement (remote/office), as per public health guidelines

This position is funded by the Ontario government Summer Experience Program.  Candidates must be under 25, returning students or recent graduates and meet all program eligibility criteria.
