emerGENce Theatre is looking to add a set designer / scenographer to our Toronto production of ‘Turtleneck’.
The show was previously produced at the Storefront Fringe Festival in Kingston, ON. The show had minimal set and lighting elements, so we are looking for someone to help us enhance the scenic elements of the show.
The job requirements / responsibilities include:
-Creating a set design
-Researching / tracking down necessary materials for the set
-Helping design the lighting for the show
-Attending key rehearsal dates
Because this show is a remount the time commitment will be very minimal. We are mainly looking for someone who will help us enhance the work we already have in place.
Because of the minimal time commitment this is currently a volunteer position. Depending on box office sales and fundraising this may be changed to a small honorarium. Because of this the ideal candidate for this job would be someone who shows promise in this field, but is still fairly new to the industry, and is primarily looking to gain experience and material for their portfolio.
Ideal candidates for the position should:
-Be someone who shows promise and talent in the area of set design and scenography, but is relatively new and looking to gain more experience and enhance their portfolio.
-Have a talent for transforming regular spaces into interesting theatrical landscapes. The venue for this show is not a typical theatre, and so we are looking for someone who can think outside the box and transform ordinary looking spaces.
-Have experience working in non-traditional performance venues / site specific theatre is an asset.
The show opens Sept. 23rd and runs until Oct 8. Rehearsals have begun on the show, so the chosen candidate would need to be available to start work within the next week. Key dates will be provided to applicants upon submission.
To be considered for the position, please submit the following to ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’.
-a BRIEF cover letter (no more than half a page maximum please)
-any additional materials that might showcase your abilities as a designer. This could include, pictures, videos, sketches, drawings, reviews, etc. Anything that gives us a sense of your style as a designer.
The email can be addressed to Brandon Nicoletti
We will accept applications until August 30th.
If you have any questions please feel free to include them in your initial email.
Successful applicants will be given further instructions.
