Shakespeare in Action is looking for a volunteer Stage Manager and volunteer Designer to help bring to life Much Ado About Nothing as part of the 6th annual Shakespeare Challenge fundraiser.

The Shakespeare Challenge is a fundraising event that supports Shakespeare in Action’s educational programming, serving thousands of at-risk youth across Toronto.
The Challenge will feature up to 14 community members coming together to unleash their inner thespian under the direction of Shakespeare in Action’s renowned Artistic Director Michael Kelly. Our Challenge Champions will rehearse and perform an abridged version of Much Ado About Nothing. In a race against time, these brave souls will rehearse one night a week for eleven weeks to prepare and present this memorable production. That’s the Shakespeare Challenge!

The Stage Manager will be responsible for:
*Organizing rehearsal schedules.
*Maintaining weekly contact with participants, informing them of any changes, updates, etc.
*Recording blocking and taking other necessary notes in the stage management prompt book.
*Organizing and maintaining the rehearsal space.
*Liaising with the designer and Shakespeare in Action office staff regularly throughout the duration of rehearsals.

The Stage Manager must be available from 6:30-9:30 on the following dates:
*February 7th, 14th, & 28th.
*March 7th, 14th, 21st, & 28th.
*April 4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th.
*Must also be available for dress rehearsal from 11am-11pm on May 2nd, and performances from 6pm-11pm on May 3rd & 4th.

The Designer will be responsible for:
*Meeting with Artistic Director and Managing Producer regularly throughout the rehearsal process.
*Designing and executing set, costume, and props.
*Managing a small budget.
*Maintaining regular communication with Stage Manager and Shakespeare in Action office staff.
*The designer must commit to regular meetings with the Artistic Director, 2-3 rehearsals (see dates above), and the dress rehearsal from 11am-11pm on May 2nd.

Both the Stage Manager and the Designer will receive a small honorarium.
